Linda Ashmore

Linda is a 'born again biker' who got on a bike again to accompany her husband to the Himalaya and says,  "I wouldn't have survived without having first done the IAM Advanced Motorcycle Test".  She has since returned twice and and other trips include Morocco, Australia and Tasmania.  She now wishes to pass on the skills to others and  is a National Observer and Masters rider with the  Dorchester & West Dorset Advanced Motorcyclists

Lilian Hobbs

Lilian Hobbs is an IAM National Observer with the Solent Advanced Motorcyclists , Chief Tutor for Hampshire RoAdar and an instructor on the IAM Skills Day at Thruxton. A recent newcomer to motorcycling she is an avid motorcycle tourer and you can see her adventures at  which includes trips across North America, the Himalayas and to the Bottom of the world at Ushuaia, Nepal and last year Iceland and the Faroes Islands. Lilian is a fan of BMW motorcycles owning a F650GS which has been ridden twice across North America, a 1200GS,  a K1300R and a G650GS which will soon be making its way to the Canadian Maritimes.

Karen Taylor

Karen passed her test in 1987 and has been riding bikes ever since.  She started motorcycle training in 1992 and formed her own company, Karen’s Motorcycle Training, in 2001. She has a sympathetic,  but no nonsense,  approach to her clients and tailors each course to meet the skills and capabilities of each person.  Courses include CBT,  A1(125test), A2 (mid range 35kws) A (direct access), as well as ‘refreshers’  for those who wish to get back into biking. She loves her job which means spending every day on  a motorbike helping people to ride safely and get them through their tests.

Dr Wendy Peters

Dr Wendy Peters is a retired GP and a member of the  Solent Advanced Motorcyclists and has been riding motorcycles and scooters for many years.  She has worked with motorbike tour companies in the Andes and Himalayas, has ridden in all but one continent in the world and has worked as a tour Medic in Europe as well as the Middle And Far East with the Royal British Legion.

Sheonagh Linda & Kim.jpg

Sheonagh Ravensdale and Pat Thomson (aka Dusty Old Bags)

The nickname comes from their casual approach to motorcycle luggage... Sheonagh and Pat have each been riding for over 40 years. They have ridden independently through 43 countries and their longest trip to date was 16 months from Panama to Cambodia. They have just returned from touring India on a couple of Harley Davidsons sponsored by BIKE India magazine. Sheonagh decided it was time for some training, signed up with DWDAM and passed her IAM test last November. (Panama to Cambodia blog)

Di Woodcock

Di is a born again biker who so enjoyed and valued the IAM experience that she became a National Observer and Local Observer Assessor and works with Aylesbury Advanced and Thames Valley Advanced. She is also part of the SERV OBN blood bikers and her only  only claims to “exotic” adventures is doing the  Nurburgring with TVAM in 2009, when they had a dedicated track for the day, and doing the Pacific Coast Highway from San Francisco to Santa Monica on a Harley in 2012.

Kate Minchin

Kate passed her IAM test in 2013. Unfortunately  Kate was knocked off her bike by a car only two days later, but her IAM training meant that although her bike was written off, she walked (well, hobbled!) away. Kate remembers every second of the run up to the crash and how the skills she learnt assisted her in avoiding a much worse outcome, it was invaluable. Kate rides a Tiger 800XC, loves heading off with a tent strapped to the back and getting the bike muddy! She will be riding in India with Tiffany Coates later this year.

Gina Herridge

Gina Herridge passed her test in 1995.  The realisation that a DSA test pass did not equip her to be safe or even effective on the road immediately led to further training, and the conviction that safety and fun go hand in hand on a bike.  She has been Chair of Somerset Advanced Motorcyclists for the last two years, and is now a National Observer for the Institute of Advanced Motorists and IAM SKills Day instructor.  She has enjoyed mentoring many riders and other observers over the years, and rides extensively in the UK, France and Spain just for pleasure.

Penny West

Penny is an Observer for the Wey Valley IAM. She rides a Triumph Tiger 800, bought mainly to do lots of European touring, the last of which was a three week tour of the Picos Mountains in Spain last year.   Other bikes owned include a Suzuki GSX650F, a Suzuki Gladius and a Honda CBF125.  She is also a member of the NEG, (National Escort Group) which involves escorting bike races for British Cycling.  Penny loves Observing where she can hopefully instil the same love, confidence and enjoyment for biking that the WeyValley IAM gave to her.
